What’s Happening at Holland Road Elementary– January 3, 2023

Dear Families/Guardians;
Happy New Year!  We hope you had a restful and enjoyable holiday season.
It was nice to see your children as they arrived at school and connected with friends they haven't seen in awhile.  There was excitement on some faces, with others looking a little tired.  Hopefully everyone will quickly get back into the routine of school.  There was also lots of sharing taking place as classes had their morning meetings. I wish I could have been in all classes to hear these conversations!

Here are a few things to keep in mind throughout the month:

Guidelines for Inclement Weather:  For a printable PDF of our guidelines click here

Keep in mind that if the weather deteriorates through the school day, the HRCE can decide to dismiss early. In the event of an early dismissal, the decision will be communicated as close to 11 a.m. as possible.   If this happens, students will be dismissed at 11:45.
Students cannot be sent home on the bus unless we’ve communicated with families.  To help with this, you can email your child’s teacher to let them know you are aware that there is an early dismissal and what the dismissal plan will be, such as they’ll be picked up or they should take the bus.

** As a reminder, students who go to Inner Strength will need to be picked up since Inner Strength is not open on snow days.
***  Excel is also cancelled, but students can go home on the bus.  We will need to know your child's afternoon bus number, which may be different from the morning bus number.

Covid Tests/Mask:  There’s still lots of illness around – let us know if you’d like any Covid tests or masks and we can send them home with your child.

Family Literacy Day:  This takes place every year on January 27th to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. This year’s theme is Celebrate Your Heritage!

Canada is a great diverse country full of different cultures. Use reading as one way to explore and learn about your heritage and the dynamic cultures that make up our communities.

Please see the attached Family Literacy Day poster for ideas to support your child
