Class Placement for September 2023

The placement of students for the next grade level is a process that we take very seriously and is a team approach with current grade level teachers, administrators, and resource and/or learning centre teachers meeting to discuss each child individually.  We take many factors into consideration such as academic abilities, personalities, cooperative groupings, gender, friendships and class size.  Our decisions are based on what we know about your child and how we can best place them in an environment where they will be successful, while creating balanced classrooms.

If you have any information that you feel will help us gain further insight into what your child needs to be successful, email kwest@hrce.ca by Sunday, May 14.  Keep in mind that this is not meant to be a process of picking your child’s teacher for next year.

Black Excellence Day
Nova Scotia’s second annual Black Excellence Day, which is celebrated on the third Monday of May each year, is on May 15. It’s another opportunity to take time to learn something new about the African Nova Scotian community and its successes. Wear black on May 15 as a show of support and celebration.

Student Drop-off
As a reminder, vehicles should not be entering the bus loop before 8:00 while busses are arriving.  Prior to this time, you need to park at the bottom of the hill and either walk your child up or let them walk up on their own.    At times, there has been some congestion and there’s a risk to student safety as they exit vehicles.  We actually had a close call where a student was nearly hit.

Student Lateness
We have an increasing number of students arriving late.  At times, it may be unavoidable but when possible, please try to have your child arrive by 8:00.   This is the start of the instructional day and late arrivals can be disruptive to the classroom, as well as cause some students to feel behind if they enter while a lesson is being taught or has finished being taught.
