What’s Happening at HRES – Nov. 8

Scholastic Book Fair
Thanks for the support to date with the book fair – it has been a success!.  For those not purchasing books, students have the option to help Mrs. McDowell select books to purchase from the proceeds of the book fair.

Families are welcome to shop tomorrow, Nov. 9, until 6:00.

Remembrance Day Assembly
We will be having a Remembrance Day Assembly tomorrow morning and students are invited to wear their uniforms if they are in Sparks, Embers, Guides, Beavers or Cubs.

We are looking for a family who is attending the Remembrance Day Service in Waverley to lay the wreath on behalf of Holland Road Elementary.  Please email Sophie Day at sday@hrce.ca if you would like to do this and we can either send the wreath home with your child on Friday or you can pick it up.

Holiday Season Support

Holiday Concert
Mark the date!  Our Holiday Concert will be on Wed. Dec. 13, with a snow date on Thurs. Dec. 14.  There will be 2 performances, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.

Dismissal Changes
If there is a change in dismissal, the best way to ensure we get the message is to send in a note.  If a teacher is emailed, there is a possibility they may be absent and not get it or if it’s sent during the day they may not see it in time.  We also had a situation where our phone lines were down. 

Water Update
In case your child comes home and talks about the water, we thought we’d provide you with some information.  First of all, our water is tested every day and it is safe to drink.  We had been using bottled water and made the transition to water fountains that are filtered.  We were informed that periodically it may be discoloured, which is from iron deposits.  When this happens, the system needs to be flushed for several minutes. 
We’ve noticed an increase in discolouration, so our water system was checked today.  Without going into a lengthy explanation, they’ve addressed the cause but the water will be discoloured for the next few days.  In the meantime, they’ve provided us with water coolers.  It is safe to wash hands!
