Dear Families,
On behalf of all of the staff at Holland Road Elementary, we'd like to thank you for the support you've given us throughout the year. We hope your summer is restful, relaxing and all that you need it to be! Here are a few updates for June, plus some tidbits for the start of the school year:
Holland Road Vision Statement & Matrix: In Nova Scotia, schools are encouraged to create a vision statement and accompanying matrix of expectations as part of the Safe and Inclusive School Strategy. At Holland Road Elementary, we have a draft based on staff discussions, along with input from our students.
This process should also have input from families, ensuring that the school’s values, goals, and actions reflect the voices of the wider community.
Please review the attached draft and let us know if you have any suggestions or anything that should be added. We are near the end of the school year, so if you could do this by the end of the week, it would be appreciated. Matrix and Vision Statement.docx
Last Day of School: Monday, June 30 is the last day of school and students will be dismissed at 9:45. There is no Inner Strength that day, so other arrangements need to be made for pick up. Please communicate with your child’s teacher for any changes to dismissal.
*Please note that there is no school for students on Friday.
Farewells: We would like to take an opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you and farewell to several of our wonderful staff members who will be leaving us at the end of this school year. We wish all the best to Mrs. L. MacIsaac (Grade 4/5), Mrs. Bezanson (Grade 4), Mrs. MacFarlane (Speech Language Pathologist), Ms. A. MacIsaac (Learning Support Teacher) and Ms. Cindy (EPA) who are moving on to new adventures next year. They will be greatly missed!
Thank-you Lunch Monitors! We’d like to thank our full time and part time lunch monitors. We appreciate you taking an hour out of your day to supervise our students! Also, a big thanks to our Head Lunch Monitor, Cory Mooney, who coordinated everyone so effortlessly – it was very much appreciated!!!
Please let us know if you’d like to help out in September – you will need updated Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks. (The more supervision the better)!
Supply Lists for 2025-26 - These will be posted on our school website soon.
Bus Information for 2025-26: Information about student transportation for the 2025-26 school year will be available to view online through the BusPlanner Parent Portal later in July.
- Families eligible for transportation will receive an email to access the Parent Portal to view their child’s bus information once it is available.
- Once you receive the email, you must follow the instructions to activate your new Parent Portal account and create a password. Using previous Parent Portal login information will not work.
- If you can't find the email, please contact transportation@hrce.ca or 902-431-4723 for assistance.
Over the summer, the HRCE Student Transportation team will also reach out to new HRCE families and those families who may require special needs transportation for their children with more information about busing.
Reminder: The Student Transportation team is available to assist you and answer questions about busing all summer at transportation@hrce.ca or 902-431-4723. When contacting the team, please ensure you have your child’s name, grade, school name and student ID number ready. Your child’s student ID number can be found in PowerSchool or on the top of your child’s report card.
September Dates:
- Sept. 3: Class lists finalized in the morning. Due to registrations over the summer, we may need to make changes so If you check PowerSchool too early, they may change.
- Sept. 3: Open House/ Curriculum Night. Students and families can see the classroom and meet the teacher and students are encouraged to bring their school supplies!
- Sept. 4: First Day of School
Have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing many of you in September. We send best wishes to all who are moving to other schools.
