Head Lice Notice: We want to make you aware that several cases of head lice have been reported within our school community. While this is certainly not uncommon in school settings, we want to ensure that all families have the information they need to help prevent further spread.
We encourage you to check your child’s hair regularly over the next couple of weeks. To support you, we have included information on identifying and treating head lice. How to Prevent, Find and Treat Head Lice.pdf
**Please remember that students do not need to stay home from school once treatment has begun.**
Grades Primary–2 Report Card Update: Nova Scotia introduced an updated Language Arts curriculum for Grades Primary to 2 in September 2024. The new curriculum is organized into three main areas, called strands:
- Foundations of Language – phonics, spelling, and word knowledge
- Comprehension – understanding what is read or heard
- Composition – expressing ideas through speaking and writing
These strands work together to show how reading, writing, and oral language support one another as children grow into confident, capable communicators.
This year, report cards for Grades Primary to 2 will reflect these updated strands:
- Strand A: Foundations of Language
- Strand B: Comprehension
- Strand C: Composition
What families can expect:
- Grade Primary: Since grades are not reported, strand names will not appear.
- Grades 1–2: The new strand names will appear on your child’s report card.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
Annual Food Drive: Holland Road Elementary School is collecting non-perishable food items for the Lions Christmas Express Food Drive. Pick up will be Friday, December 12. Feel free to bring donations to Student Progress Conferences or send in with your child the following week.
Dismissal Changes: If there is a change in dismissal, the best way to ensure we get the message is to send in a note or call the office. If you send an email to your child’s teacher, there is a possibility they may be absent and not get it or if it’s sent during the day they may not see it in time.
