Terry Fox Run: The weather is looking good for our annual Terry Fox Walk and Run tomorrow! However if does rain this evening as forecasted and the field is too wet, the event will be postponed to next Thursday. To make a donation, visit https://schools.terryfox.ca/HollandRoad
Early Dismissal: In the event of early dismissal, all families should have received a pink early dismissal form. If you have not returned it yet, please do so as soon as possible. Even though this is most often used for inclement weather, there could be other reasons that a school closes early (i.e. extended power outage). If our school closes early, we will be contacting all families so that you are aware.
Please note: If your child goes to an after-school program, such as Creative Minds or Inner Strength Taekwondo, parents will have to pick up their child/children. At this time, the transportation department only allows for one drop-off to be listed on the bus manifest. For early closure, Excel will be cancelled but those students can take the bus home.
HRCE Demographic Updates Form: Recently, a notification regarding the HRCE Demographic Updates Form was sent to you. This online form allows parents/guardians to make updates to demographic information for students.
Please log in the PowerSchool Parent Portal to complete the form. Even if there are no anticipated changes, it’s important to review to ensure all information about your child is current, including contacts, medical information, consents and demographics. In addition, the media consent must be done every year. Reach out if you have any questions.
Universal Screening in Reading: In September, classroom teachers focus on getting to know their students – both as individuals and as learners. As part of this process, schools will be using Universal Screening in Reading for students in Grade 1 and 2 students this month. This screening is one of several tools teachers use to assess student learning and will be used alongside other screeners throughout the year across all grade levels.
Universal Screening is a short activity that helps us see how your child is developing in literacy. It provides a quick snapshot of their current progress and highlights areas where they may benefit from additional support. This information helps teachers plan instruction so that every student gets what they need in order to grow and succeed.
