September 13th, 2025

Dear HRES Families,
This is the first full week of the school year, and students are settling into the routines of their new classrooms. There’s a lot happening this month - here are a few things to take note of:
Bus Loop/Drop off Information: If you're dropping off your child, please park at the bottom of the hill. You may walk them up or allow them to walk up on their own. Do not enter the bus loop until after 8:00
It’s not safe to have vehicles coming in the loop while busses are arriving and backing out/turning around.
Stand Up Against Bulling Day is Thursday, September 11
On the second Thursday of September, we recognize Stand Up Against Bullying Day. On Thursday, September 11, we will celebrate inclusivity, kindness and friendship. All HRCE school teams are focused on ensuring all students have a safe and welcoming environment in which to learn and thrive. Please join us and wear pink if you’re able on September 11 to take a stand against bullying.
From the PTA: Our first meeting of the year will be this Thurs. (Sept. 11) at 6pm and will be held in the library. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the PTA and what we do. Attending in no way commits you to anything, so PLEASE feel free to join us as we discuss the upcoming year and all the ways that we will endeavour to enhance our children's learning environment, build great community spirit and raise funds for our school. We hope to see you there!
EMP Drills: As part of our Emergency Management Plan, we practice fire drills, lockdown drills and a hold and secure drill. We practice these drills to ensure our school remains a safe place for teaching and learning. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.
We are required to have six fire drills each year. We had our first one on today and there will be two more this Fall, and three in the Spring.
During a Lockdown Drill, the teachers will teach the children how to move quietly in their classroom to a safe place and remain calm. The students remain inside the classroom until instructed by the teacher to resume their activities. Furthermore, all interior and exterior doors are locked and no one is permitted to enter or leave the building. Please be assured that lockdown drills are something that we will be doing with sensitivity so that students aren’t frightened. Our first drill will take place on September 16.
During a Hold and Secure Drill, the students remain inside their classroom and resume their activities. All interior and exterior doors are locked and no one is permitted to enter or leave the building. Our first Hold and Secure Drill will take place on September 25.
