Pre-Primary & Primary Registration:  We are now accepting registrations for the 2026-27 school year through our online portal, PowerSchool Enrollment.  Registration is only required if you are either new to Halifax Regional Centre for Education or your child is beginning school in Pre-Primary or Primary. Current Pre-Primary students are not required to re-register for Primary. For more information on Pre-Primary registration, please click here.  It’s important to register in February to ensure appropriate resources are in place for September.

February is African Heritage Month:  African Heritage Month in Nova Scotia is a time to recognize and celebrate the rich history, vibrant culture, and lasting contributions of people of African descent in our province. This year’s theme, “Strength in Unity – Moving Forward with Purpose, Prosperity, Power and Progress,” reminds us of the importance of coming together as a community, learning from one another, and moving forward with shared purpose.

In our schools, African Heritage Month provides meaningful opportunities for students to explore African Nova Scotian histories and experiences, deepen their understanding of our shared past, and reflect on the values of respect, inclusion, and belonging. Through classroom learning, discussions, and activities connected to this year’s theme, students are encouraged to appreciate diversity, build empathy, and recognize the strength that comes from unity. These experiences help foster welcoming school communities and inspire students to contribute positively to a more inclusive and equitable future for all.

Bus Loop & Drop-Off Reminder:  - We’ve noticed that some students are arriving before supervision is available. Supervision begins at 7:40 a.m., so we ask that students not be dropped off before this time.

- If you are dropping off your child, please park at the bottom of the hill and have them walk up using the sidewalk. To ensure buses can arrive safely, we ask that families wait until after 8:00 a.m. before entering the bus loop.

- Please note that parking on the hill is not permitted, as staff members need access to parking spaces when they arrive for the day.  (Some staff do not arrive until 8:00)..

- At times, there may be several vehicles dropping off students in the morning. Please use extra caution when driving past parked vehicles.

Hot Chocolate, Comfy Clothes & Olympic Spirit – Friday:  The PTA has kindly offered to host a school-wide Hot Chocolate Day this Friday! To add to the fun, we’ll also be celebrating a Comfy & Cozy Day. Students are invited to wear comfortable clothing such as sweatpants or pajamas—whatever helps them feel cozy and relaxed. Students are also welcome to wear red and white as we recognize the start of the Olympics.

If your child has any allergy concerns, please let us know so we can plan accordingly.

Lockdown Drill:  We will have our second Lockdown Drill on February 10.  Every school is required to have 2 Lockdown Drills each year.  During a Lockdown Drill, the teachers will teach the children how to move quietly in their classroom to a safe place and remain calm. The students remain inside the classroom until instructed by the teacher to resume their activities. Furthermore, all interior and exterior doors are locked, and no one is permitted to enter or leave the building.

Please be assured that lockdown drills are something that we do with sensitivity so that students aren’t frightened.   Just as we prepare our students to properly respond to a fire drill, they also need to be aware of the proper response during a lockdown drill. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us.
