What's Happening at HRES - Sept. 27

Dear Families:

Here’s what’s happening this week at Holland Road Elementary School:

Picture Retakes -These will take place on Mon. Sept 27.  If you’d like your child to have re-takes, please let your child’s teacher know.

SAC Meeting – Our first meeting will take place virtually on Tues. Sept. 28.  You can find more information about the School Advisory Committee on our webpage or by using the following link https://hre.hrce.ca/hre/school-advisory-council/school-advisory-council

Orange Shirt Day - Orange Shirt Day is observed across the country on September 30. Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for all staff and students to increase their awareness about the thousands of Indigenous children across Canada who were forced from their homes to attend residential schools. Acknowledging this day provides an active invitation for our region to participate in reconciliation.  Click the following link for more information: www.orangeshirtday.org  You can also click on the youtube link to see a short clip with Phyllis Webstad presenting her memories of Residential schools and the meaning of Orange Shirt Day https://youtu.be/E3vUqr01kAk
This year, Orange Shirt Day will be honoured on Wed. Sept. 29 in HRCE.

Truth and Reconciliation Day - All public schools will be closed on September 30, to observe the first annual Truth and Reconciliation Day. The purpose of this day is to honour those who attended Residential Schools in Canada and to acknowledge the harm and intergenerational trauma experienced by First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Survivors, their families and their communities.

Curriculum Night Information -  Due to gathering limits, we were unable to have our curriculum night.  We'd like to make sure you get information regarding your child's curriculum so teachers will be sending an email later in the week with a link or attachment.
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
