Tattletales’ Coins for Books
We have decided to join the Tattletales’ Coins for Books Campaign. Tattletales Books and Toys, along with the support of local businesses, will add a percentage to the donations received from the Holland Road Community. The money raised will be returned in the form of books for classroom libraries from pre-primary to grade 5.  Check out the attachment for more information, as well as the challenges for next week.

Celebrate African Heritage Month
As we continue to celebrate African Heritage Month, a reminder that we are inviting students to wear a particular colour from the African Nova Scotian flag each Friday. Each colour has a meaning – red symbolizes the sacrifice African Nova Scotians have endured and green symbolizes fertility, growth and future generations.  Here’s the next 2 Fridays colours and meanings:
Feb 17th – Yellow (or gold) symbolizes cultural richness
Feb 24th – Black symbolizes the people.

February is Registration Month
We are accepting registrations for the 2023-2024 school year through our new online portal, PowerSchool Enrollment!  Visit the HRCE website for more information and to enrol your child today!

Lockdown Drill
We will have our second Lockdown Drill on Friday morning.  Every school is required to have 2 Lockdown Drills each year. During a Lockdown Drill, the teachers will teach the children how to move quietly in their classroom to a safe place and remain calm. The students remain inside the classroom until instructed by the teacher to resume their activities. Furthermore, all interior and exterior doors are locked and no one is permitted to enter or leave the building.
Please be assured that lockdown drills are something that we will be doing with sensitivity so that students aren’t frightened. Just as we prepare our students to properly respond to a fire drill, they also need to be aware of the proper response during a lockdown drill.  When possible, our RCMP School Liaison Officer may assist us in conducting lockdown drills.  If you have questions, please feel free to contact us.

Kindness Week
This week is Kindness Week and we have a challenge each day which are as follows:  write an anonymous note to a staff member, give someone a high five and a smile, say thank-you to their after-school caregivers (home, excel, babysitter, Inner Strength), give your lunch monitor a complement, tidy up the coat racks and/or classroom.

Take care,

Your admin team,
Kellie West & Diana Trider
