What's Happening @HRES - Feb. 1

What’s Happening at Holland Road Elementary– February 1, 2023

February is Registration Month
We are accepting registration for the 2023-24 school year for pre-primary and new primary students.  (Children must be 4 or 5 by Dec. 31).   Our pre-primary students are already registered so there’s no need to register for primary.

Registration is to be done electronically through the new online portal, PowerSchool Enrollment.  Visit the HRCE website for more information and to enrol your child today!    Give us a call if you need help or have any questions.  You can also contact our Parent Navigator, Natasha Horne, at 902-464-2000 ext. 4361.  She can also help if you don’t have access to a computer.

Tip: Before you begin, make sure you have the following documents in electronic form (image, PDF or Word document):
• Proof of identity/age with one of the following: birth certificate, passport, immigration papers, or legal adoption papers) if you are new to the HRCE;
• Proof of home address (a recently dated official government or utility document with your current address that includes your name and date, such as water bill, power bill, internet bill, home fuel bill, a tax receipt, property assessment or a mortgage contract); and
• Nova Scotia Health Card or Canadian Province Health Card or, for non-citizens while in Canada, proof of Medical Insurance Information.
Grade 5 students will also need to register for Georges P Vanier. There was a presentation from GPV today and students will be bringing home packages.  Grade 5 families, an email will be going home tomorrow with information and attachments with the required forms (in case any go missing)!

Celebrate African Heritage Month
Each Friday in February we are going to invite students to wear a particular colour from the African Nova Scotian flag. We will also discuss what each colour represents on the morning announcements.
Feb 3rd – Red
Feb 10th – Green
Feb 17th – Yellow (or gold)
Feb 24th – Black

We played  “Lift Every Voice and Sing”, which is also known as the Black National Anthem, today and will play it every Friday in place of O Canada.

This year's theme is Seas of Struggle – African Peoples from Shore to Shore, which recognizes the resiliency, strength, and determination of people of African descent from the shores of Africa to the shores of Nova Scotia – with the Atlantic Ocean being the everlasting connection
